Custom timber and composite decks for Bondi homes

PERGOLAS AND PATIOS

Adora Decks builds custom decks across Bondi, from Bondi Beach to North Bondi and the residential streets around Hall Street. We specialise in rooftop decks for Bondi’s terrace homes, as well as replacing existing decks damaged by salt, sand and sun exposure. Owner-Director Jason provides on-site quotes. NSW builder licence 451245C. Call 02 4666 3800 to discuss your project.

Deck builders in Bondi, what we build

  • Composite decks in WoodEvo and Innawood, the usual pick for Bondi conditions
  • Timber decks in Blackbutt, Merbau and Treated Pine
  • Rooftop decks over tiles, waterproofing membranes and existing terrace roofs
  • Pool decks and pool surrounds
  • Pergolas and privacy screens
  • Deck maintenance and board replacement on existing decks

Bondi blocks are small, so most jobs involve space-efficient design: wrap-around decks, rooftop entertaining spaces and built-in seating.

Why Bondi decks need a different specification

Three Bondi-specific factors shape the build.

Salt, sand and wind erosion: Beach-side blocks catch wind-blown sand that scratches soft timber and lower-grade composite. 316 stainless fixings are the default. We prefer composite on the beach-side streets because it does not need re-oiling and does not stain from the mix of salt, sand and sunscreen that lands on Bondi decks.

High UV load: Bondi sits under full UV with limited shade in the open streets. Lower-grade composite boards fade or warp. The WoodEvo and Innawood ranges we use carry UV warranty and hold their colour.

Rooftop and deck-over-tile builds: Bondi terraces often have small backyards and roof terraces with view potential. We build rooftop decks on adjustable pedestals so composite boards float above the existing tiles and waterproofing stays untouched. If the waterproofing membrane below is at end of life, we lift the tiles and price the repair into the build rather than warranting a job over a failing surface.

How quickly we can get to you

Camden to Bondi is around 55 to 65 minutes via the M5 and Eastern Distributor. Site visits inside three business days. Written quote within 30 minutes of the visit. Build slots run four to eight weeks out, longer in spring and summer.

Recent work and the sort of jobs we take on

Common Bondi briefs:

  • Rooftop decks on terraces in North Bondi and the streets around Hall Street, built over tiles with pedestal-mounted composite
  • Replacement decks for 10 to 20 year old timber decks that have faded, cupped or cracked under beach-side UV and salt
  • Small backyard entertaining decks with built-in seating and composite boards
  • Pool surrounds around compact lap pools

Nearby Eastern Suburbs we also cover

Bondi sits inside our broader Eastern Suburbs service area. We also cover Bondi Junction, North Bondi, Bronte, Tamarama, Clovelly, Waverley and the rest of the Eastern Suburbs. See the Eastern Suburbs page for the full list.

What drives the price

  • Material: Composite is around 30 to 40% more up front than Merbau. For a beach-side home where UV and salt shorten the maintenance cycle on timber, composite usually works out cheaper over 10 years.
  • Rooftop versus ground: Rooftop decks need pedestal mounting and a waterproofing check. If the membrane is sound, the job is straightforward. If it is failing, we lift the tiles and price the repair in.
  • Access: Bondi streets are busy and some have limited rear access. Material handling adds cost on tight sites.
  • Council approval: Most decks under 1 metre in height qualify as exempt development through Waverley Council. Rooftop builds that affect structural load may need a DA.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I build a rooftop deck in Bondi?

Yes. Rooftop decks on Bondi terraces and apartments are one of our common jobs here. We build on adjustable pedestals so composite boards sit above the existing tiles and leave the waterproofing membrane untouched. If the membrane is at the end of life, we lift the tiles and repair them before building.

WoodEvo and Innawood composite are the usual picks because they handle UV, salt and sand without re-oiling. For a timber deck, Blackbutt holds up better than Merbau in Bondi conditions. Treated pine fades fastest and we do not recommend it for beach-side exposure.

Most decks under 1 metre of natural ground level qualify as exempt development through Waverley Council. Rooftop decks and jobs on heritage-listed terraces are more complex and often need a DA.

Standard 15 to 30 m² Bondi decks are usually on and off inside one to two weeks. Rooftop decks with waterproofing checks take two to four weeks total.
